Top 10 - Night 8

On Night 7, Demi Lavato and Daughtry performed and Shannon FINALLY went home.

Night 8 started with too much cry babying over Shannon leaving and then things go worse when we found out it was Billy Joel night. Boorrrriing.  Tommy Hilfiger is now doing styling (this could be a small improvement) and Diddy (J.lo's ex) is mentoring.

2 = Deandre -This Lion King lookalike hopped around the stage and was quite awkward.  I think it's time for him to go home next.

I think I might start fast forwarding the judges comments.  They just don't have anything to really say.

3+ = Erika - BEST MAKEOVER ON IDOL!!! She went from trashy Anna Nicole blonde to classy Kris Jenner (??)...but still a huge improvement.  Great outfit too!  This was also her best performance so far. She wasn't trying so hard.  She was just good.

3 = Joshua - Joshua is one of my favorite guys but I just don't see him really going that far in this competition.  He is definitely good and unique but there is something a little overwhelming about him, like he always has to over-sing, make his red eyes cry, and wear oddly fitting clothes.  I think he should have taken Tommy's advice and dressed up because the outfit he wore was really boring and actually kind of  hideous with that messed up tie.  How has Steven Tyler never heard of "She's Gotta A Way"...that's a well known song for anyone over 30 isn't it?

2 = Skylar -  Billy Joel wrote a Garth Brooks song?  interesting...Why is Skylar singing so bad.  She just seems to be getting worse and her outfit was very strange...wear pants and dress or just a stress or tights and a shirt, but not all three. plus a jacket.  Did...not...like...(did like the enormous earrings though).  Randy - you were thinking of Brad Paisley over Garth Brooks.  Weird.

2 = Alyse - I wanted to throw up at what she was wearing in rehearsal...please Tommy, FIX HER or send her home...oh wait, you said you don't know what she is going to wear?  Aren't you in charge, Tommy.  Now this was a song I had never heard of.  I thought this outfit wasn't terrible but it certainly wasn't modern at all.  As usual her singing was screetchy and loud and odd...but I could tell she was really trying to show off.  I personally don't think it worked.  Sit down judges...she is going home soon if she don't get it together.

4 = Phillip - Wow, Tommy is so wrong about trying to redo Phillips style.  We like Phillip because of  his simple look and that he plays the guitar.  They change him too much and he will be going home.  funny enough, he chose GREY AND A GUITAR! LOVE HIM for doing his own thing!  What a cool performance...one of his best!

3 = Hollie - I'm not sure I liked this.  She sounded a little off key and seemed to be over-singing...and that outfit was kind of strange.  I think preferred the sparkly evening gown to be honest.

4 = Heejun - Heejun's pitty party was a little strange...and Tommy being only an "advisor" - I don't get it.  OMG I LOVE HEEJUN!!!  As always, he is just amazing!  I really hope he stays around for a long time.  I HEART HEEJUN!  I'm so glad that Heejun was messing with Tommy - Tommy's a flippin' idiot and I hate Tommy Hilfiger clothes.

3+ = Jessica - I thought they told her not to over sing...I can't tell if she took the advice or not...but either way she sounded good and was on key.  The song was a little boring though.  I don't like her yelling/singing though.

4 = Colton - I cannot believe that that jackass Tommy Hilfiger ridiculed Colton's hair.  Colton's hair is a huge part of his persona.  Does this idiot even watch the show.  So over Tommy.  GO COLTON!  That was such an awesome performance.  I especially loved his piano playing.  He could win this show!

TOP THREE - Colton, Heejun, and Phillip

BOTTOM THREE - Deandre, Alyse, and sorry to say...Skyler.

Top 12-1=11 - Night 6

The night started out with drama and controversy as Ryan mentioned one contestant was elliminated last night due to some legal/police issue.  I immediately think it's Jermaine as I have always thought he was crazy loco and very strange...possibly a criminal...I think so...however, to add drama we didn't see the now Top 11 so that we would wonder who it is as the night goes on.

Theme - The Year You Were Born!  This theme is really starting to make me feel REALLY old as 1995 is the newest year (I was in high school!!!) and 1983 was the earliest (I was already in elementary school)...but with that said I do understand that American Idol is a show only for teenagers and 20-somethings.

3 = Phillip -  Phillip sounded great tonight but he wasn't very exciting.  Judges loved him.

3+ = Jasmine - She had a lot to live up to after last week.  In her sparkly pants she redid soap opera star Diana Degarmo's American Idol moment with Gloria Estefan's Turn the Beat Around...She might have outsung Diana but it didn't have the "emotional content"...I really actually enjoyed this performance (hearing Jennifer Hudson and seeing Beyonce at times)...but again, it wasn't as good.  The judges were harsh on her and honestly it was way better than the judges made it out to be.

4 = Heejun - I WANT HIS ALBUM NOW!!!  Right Here Waiting was a perfect song for him and he made me get all teary eyed with this rendition. LOVED IT!  What is the wrong with the judges...they actually like Phillip better than this fantastic performance?  At least Jennifer liked it.  Part of my love for HeeJun though is my personal crush on him. sigh...oh, and I LOVE his parents.

3- = Elyse - I just don't know what to think of this girl.  She is so awkward and has the most bizarre not very good voice...and yet she is kind of exciting, and makes me want to watch what monstrosity she is going to wear (a very odd sparkly ill fitting black dress and non-matching jewels).  Of course because it was kind of good, the judges loved it.  Seriously - Heejun and Jasmine way out-performed Elyse, but the judges are making it seem like she is better.  I don't get it.

just to say...Jermaine has to be on...will my prediction be correct?

3 = Deondre - Interesting parents...as most people already know Deondre is one of my least favorite people, because his voice is not that great AND he has major diva-attitude which is not cute on this show.  Tonight he was Kenny G singing Endless Love.   However, it was his best performance yet.  I have to give him credit and I think he should stay another week.  Damn, next that nasty "crawl" girl is going to be good. ugh.  Surprisingly, the judges didn't like it...I disagree. It was a great song for him.  The problem is when he does "do him" I don't like him.

2 = Shannon -  "Crawl" - So I can't stand her parents and never have but thought it was interesting that they are adding in that her father played for the Cardinals.  Then, after Jasmine said she 1995 didn't give her much to work with, Shannon says she had an interesting mix and tons to work with.  Jimmy hawked some product to play Don't Speak (an amazing song) and Shannon chooses Mariah's One Sweet Day.  Don't speak could have given her a cool cred.  Instead she will most likely just ruin this rnb ballad.  and...ugh it was pretty bad.  But even more awful was the terrible background and her gold shorts, black tights and silver flats.  Oh My Lord, even though it wasn't the worst, she is just terrible.  Of course the judges loved her. This is a joke.  America has fallen in love with her???? WHO???

3+ = Colton - should Colton be talking about "hooking up" with Daughtry.  That was a little homo to me. lol. I like Colton's parents...they are super cute looking.  Speaking of homo, Jimmy and Will.i.am. Two years running. nuff said (I'm not saying they are "together" but they are certainly kiki it like two old queens).  Okay back to the competition (haha no Jermain yet)...Colton was AWESOME!  I really love his voice and his style on this show.  He is not super exciting but he always seems to wake me up in his own way.  And for this show, that is very important.  I hope he goes a long way!  I agreed with Randy that the song didn't matter if he could really sing it well and make it his own (I also didn't know the song and feel American Idol needs more original music).

3 = Erika - Ahh, I like her mom and I think she chose a great song for her.  I am not sure what I think about her new make-over (weird) and the way they changed the song (weirder)...I think Erika could be in trouble.  Singing good doesn't matter if everything else is off...this time the judges were on...um J.Lo she is nothing like Janis Joplin (at least not in this competition)...um J.Lo would you give props to the stylists if the stylists styled YOU?  I think not.  And that arrangement was AWFUL - I agree with Randy on that one.

I KNEW IT!!!! Jermaine Jones!!!!  From his first audition I just felt something was very off about him in a creepy shady kind of way.  DRAMA!  He had four charges on him and lied about his name twice...but omg he did sound amazing...he would have gotten a 4 from me based on that rehearsal performance (and I love that song!)

3+ = Skyler - What a cute baby!  and naughty! lol (scary).  I will say the stylists do Skylar fantastically.  She always looks so great!  This song wasn't quite right though for her voice.  Still like her though!  She got a plus for her presence!

4 = Joshua - I'm a huge fan of Joshua.  His voice, style, presence, etc.  But I'm a little worried about him in this competition.  Fantasia is the only church voice to ever win. I just worry the voters aren't feelin' him.  He deserves to be in the show though and I really hope he doesn't go home.  Now...why did the judges go so cray cray?  Best of American Idol???

4- = Hollie - Her parents were cute.  Power of Love is such a great song.  She did such an awesome job and I liked her interesting evening gown.  Not a great ending though but that's okay.

My top 3 - Jasmine, Hollie, and Heejun

Bottom - Shannon, Deondre, and Erika

The judges loved Joshua but I can see America turning on them and sending him home.  Hopefully Heejun is safe as he did not have the judges back this week.

Top 13 - Night 5

A pretty lackluster night.    The idols sound awful together and their stylists are horrendous this year (especially Alyse's 1970s/80s vacation in Tahiti ensemple).

With that said, who else thinks that J.Lo has it in her contract that her own make-up people and stylists do her up.  Every week she looks flawless and there is no way the people doing contestants clown make-up are coming anywhere near Ms. Lopez...

Mary J. Blige performed as well and was good.  She is always consistent but I've never been wow'd by a Mary performance.  She just has that good but boring factor.  I often feel the same way about Alicia Keyes.

The bottom 4 was not what I expected.  I thought it would Be Alyse and Shannon (that was correct), but then I expected Deandre and Jermaine (Deandre was safe and Jeremy was in the bottom - not surprised, but not my choice).

Jermaine and Shannon were saved, which was a total shock as I expected Shannon to be going home.  Instead they sent Jeremy home over Alyse.

It's kind of sad because Jeremy had a great voice, but after last night's performance, there was really no way he could win.

At this point, we are watching the Jessica Sanchez show...and apparently Jessica has been youtube sensation for years (performing as a little girl) much like Justin Bieber.  Kind of strange that Jessica had to go the American Idol route rather than just getting a contract...but American Idol gives tons of attention to budding stars, so it might be just what she needs.  What would have happened to Charise if she would have been on American Idol?  Where is Charise now?

until next week...

Top 13 - Night 4

The competition really gets under way as Top 13 sing Stevie Wonder (boys) and Whitney Houston (girls). Tomorrow the bottom boy and girl will be announced and the judges will send one home (this is a new idea to the competition and apparently a one night only).

Travmo's Scoring:  4-Winner!  3-Good!  2-Just Okay... 1-Disaster!

Joshua: 3+
He took it to church and I think he did a great job.  He reminds me of Fantasia so much.  GREAT!

Elise: 2-
Elise is already not one of my favorites.  This was probably the best she's looked but honestly she was, as usual, shouting her song.  Her first choice was awful, but this was pretty bad too.

Jermaine: 3-
Am I the only one who finds this guy really annoying?  Why do people like him so much?  I will say though that he sounded really good tonight, but the song was kind of boring.  But I think it was mainly boring because he sang it so boringly.

Erika: 3+
This Wild Card was not my first choice, but I have to say she sure impressed tonight.  She doesn't have the most range but she has strong voice and I loved that she did a glamorous ballad.  She also looked so much better this week than last.  I don't think she can win the show, but I think she has potential to be around for a bit.

Colton: 3
Colton is one of my favorites in the competition.  However, I'm not sure this was the perfect song choice for him.  With that said, I think he did as good as he could and I think he will slide into the Top 12 with no issues.

Shannon: 1
Is "I Have Nothing" in Shannon's CRAWL? Ugh.  This is my least favorite contestant.  I still can't understand how she made with her pageant performance last week.  With that said, dressing her like a rocker teen for a ballad was stupid.  She could have easily worn a cute, young, dress...but not a leather jacket and tights.  I personally thought this was pretty terrible.  It made me miss Whitney so much.  PLEASE GO HOME!  At least the judges agreed with me for once.

Deondre: 2
This Wild Card Diva is quite annoying.  I feel like no matter what he does, he's not actually in it.  He can belt out, shake his hair, have good sets and outfits, but he's not really "present".  Maybe he's too young.  I really loved what American Idol did for this performance.  Too bad someone I liked wasn't performing.  The one positive is that his hair was up, because his hair annoys me.

Skylar - 4
We have ourselves a contender!  She did great last week and this week she looked absolutely gorgeous and I loved her rendition of "Where Do Broken Hearts Go?"  By far the best of the night so far!  I expect her to be in my top 4 tonight.

Heejun - 4
First of all, what is Heejun wearing?  I don't like his suit.  but...OMG THAT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL!!! I got "goosies", J.Lo!  It was just such an awesome performance.  And I agree with Randy...it wasn't perfect, but it was realllly good!

Hollie - 4
Where is this girl from?  She definitely has a Australian accent or something.  I love her voice so much.  The competition has apparently started now with Skylar, Heejun, and Hollie!  She reminds me of Christina Aguilera, but there is a little "big moment Kelly Clarkson" in her Idol performances.  Yay for Hollie!  But seriously, stop with the NUDE heels.  I can't stand that look!

Jeremy - 3+
The final Wild Card was my choice and I think America should have chosen him last week.  Let's see if America gets it right this week...I think Jeremy did a great job, but I'm not sure I'm undersanding the styling they put him.  It seemed very "2nd grade Teacher" and I don't even dress like as a 2nd grade teacher!  I'm not going to lie...I'm a little nervous for him.  It wasn't fantastic...but at least it was good.  Again, I agreed with Randy that it didn't have swag.  That could hurt him.

Jessica - 4
Only one girl in this competition could sing "I Will Always Love You", and that's Jessica!  She really sounded like Jennifer Hudson tonight.  The only thing I didn't like was how much of the song had to be cut, making it sound a little rushed and weird.  But Jessica "nailed" it!  Oh, and she looked gorgeous too!

Can I take a moment to give a shout out to JC Pennys and Ellen Degeneres.  These commercials are just awesome and hilarious!  Who would have thought JCP would be cool in 2012?

Phillip - 3+
After a bunch of ballads, it was kind of nice to have a rock performance at this point.  Phillip is just so awesome.  I'm really happy with America for picking the best of the bunch last week and I'm also happy with American Idol for not cutting the crappy singers out early rather than in the past seasons where we went week after week widdling down.  That used to be my favorite part of the competition but after a few seasons it got a little old.  Now at least we are working with the best (minus Shannon).

TOP 2 BOYS:  Heejun and Phillip

TOP 2 GIRLS:  Jessica and Hollie

BOTTOM 2 BOYS:  Deandre and Jermaine

BOTTOM 2 GIRLS:  Shannon and Elise

Who should go home?  duh...Shannon!  The problem is, if Shannon gets votes someone good may go home early.  SCARY!

Top 24 Results - Episode 3

Tonight, after the first round of competition, American chooses 5 guys and 5 girls. Then the judges pick 6 non-winners to sing for their life, and then each judge chooses one more for a top 13!

First off, thank God for Jimmy Iovine, to put a little Simon Cowell into the show and tell the judges that some of their favorites actually sucked (which I agree)!

Second, America got it mostly right with their top ten.  Phillip, HeeJun, Joshua, and Colton made it.  I wanted Creighton, but I think Colton was a good choice on second thought.  However, Jeremy did not (Jermaine surprisingly took his place).

Hollie,, Skylar, Jessica made it.  No one but me apparently liked Haley and she didn't make it.  Shannon "Crawl" who is disgusting actually made it (AMERICA ARE YOU CRAZY??) and Elise rounded out the  top 5 (I thought maybe she would squeak in over Martha's Vineyard's Jazzy Jen, who underperformed last night, as did Heart's Patricia Arquette Erika.

So with the top ten decided...6 non-winners were chosen to sing...first up:

Jen - This Mitt Romney-like upper crust snob did a great job singing...but honestly, I kind of think her time might be up...we will have to see her competition.

Jeremy - This guy should have made it in the top ten, and did a great job with a Carrie Underwood song.  Hopefully the judges will get it right and choose him.

Brielle - Are you kidding me?  This obnoxious Long Island girl with a crazy mom wailed through an Adele song (STOP DOING ADELE YOU IDIOTS) and she will not make it.

Deandre - This QUEEN was shocked he didn't make it...even to the point where he got mad attitude and sashayed off and flipped his hair into a ponytail.  Then he screached through a song which the judges like and I couldn't stand.  He might make it...but maybe not.  I'm hoping not.

Erika - The Edge of Glory DJ did another horrible job.  She is not going to make it with this bad singing.  Unless the judges get it wrong.

Reed - pretty boring, but an okay singer/performer.

My choice is Jeremy, Jeremy, and Jeremy.  But if I had to choose two different people, I would choose Jen and Reed.

Judges THREE are Erika (WHAT?!), Jeremy (YES!!!), and...Deandre (well, I guess we know who will most likely be going home next week...)

Next Week Mary J. Blige will coach Stevie Wonder/Whitney Houston songs...should be interesting or boring.
